APHA Meeting
Medical
Mission Sisters Teresita Hinnegan, a Philadelphia native and graduate
of St. Hubert High School, Janet Gottschalk and Jean Mouch will make
presentations at the annual meeting of the American Public Health
Association (APHA) in Philadelphia Dec. 10 through 14.
Sister Teresita, in mission in Philadelphia, will address “Public
Health Ramifications of Human Trafficking.”
Sister Janet, who heads up the Medical Mission Sisters’ Alliance
for Justice Office in Washington, D.C., will speak about women’s
ongoing struggles against the forces of conservatism at the United
Nations.”
Sister Jean, who works in Camden, will speak on “the people’s
health movement,” grassroots advocates for developing primary
health care practices and policy.”
Sisters Rosemary Ryan, Kathryn Gates and Frances Vaughan have been
elected the new coordinating team for the community’s North
American Sector, which consists of 128 Medical Mission Sisters who
serve in healing ministries in the U.S. and Mexico.
Holiday Concert
Natali Domino, an Italian Christmas celebration, will be
presented by Vox Ama Deus at 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, at St. Katharine
of Siena Church in Wayne. The concert is dedicated to the Italian

Middle Adult Catholic Singles (MACS) are invited to a holiday

Toys and Clothing
Alumni of the former St. James High School in Chester will
conduct the annual children’s toys and clothing drive Dec. 13-14.
Items may be dropped off at the alumni building, 1499 E. 9th Street

Bermuda Cruise
Aid for Friends will sponsor a seven-day cruise from Philadelphia
to Bermuda aboard the Empress of the Seas from June 24 to July 1.
Aid for Friends is an interfaith charity with headquarters in Northeast
Philadelphia. The group provides free meals delivered by visitors
to more than 2,100 homebound people in the five county area. Information:

Foster Parents
Catholic Social Services is looking for married or single
adults to become foster parents for children of all ages, races and
religions. Homes are also needed for children with special or emotional

Spiritual
Advent Vespers
St.
Rita National Shrine, 1166 S. Broad Street, conducts Advent Vespers
at 5 p.m. each Advent Sunday. The service includes the singing of
psalms and hymns followed by a reading and brief reflection. The Shrine
has a 7:30 p.m. Mass every second Tuesday for Lay Consolers of the

Weekend Retreat
Young men (16 to 40) who are discerning a vocation to the diocesan
priesthood are invited to a weekend retreat at St. Charles Borromeo
Seminary Dec. 9-11. The retreat begins with dinner Friday and ends

Vigil for Life
Father Shaun L. Mahoney will conduct the Helpers of God’s
Precious Infants vigil for life Saturday, Dec. 17. Following Mass
at 7 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church in Center City, the clergy
and congregation will pray the rosary at a nearby abortion center
and return to St. John’s for Benediction.
